Amos 5:21-6:7

New International Version

²¹“I hate,^(A) I despise your religious festivals;^(B)
    your assemblies^(C) are a stench to me.
²²Even though you bring me burnt offerings^(D) and grain offerings,
    I will not accept them.^(E)
Though you bring choice fellowship offerings,
    I will have no regard for them.^(F)
²³Away with the noise of your songs!
    I will not listen to the music of your harps.^(G)
²⁴But let justice^(H) roll on like a river,
    righteousness^(I) like a never-failing stream!^(J)

²⁵“Did you bring me sacrifices^(K) and offerings
    forty years^(L) in the wilderness, people of Israel?
²⁶You have lifted up the shrine of your king,
    the pedestal of your idols,^(M)
    the star of your god^[a]—
    which you made for yourselves.
²⁷Therefore I will send you into exile^(N) beyond Damascus,”
    says the Lord, whose name is God Almighty.^(O)

Woe to the Complacent

6 Woe to you^(P) who are complacent^(Q) in Zion,
    and to you who feel secure^(R) on Mount Samaria,^(S)
you notable men of the foremost nation,
    to whom the people of Israel come!^(T)
²Go to Kalneh^(U) and look at it;
    go from there to great Hamath,^(V)
    and then go down to Gath^(W) in Philistia.
Are they better off than^(X) your two kingdoms?
    Is their land larger than yours?
³You put off the day of disaster
    and bring near a reign of terror.^(Y)
⁴You lie on beds adorned with ivory
    and lounge on your couches.^(Z)
You dine on choice lambs
    and fattened calves.^(AA)
⁵You strum away on your harps^(AB) like David
    and improvise on musical instruments.^(AC)
⁶You drink wine^(AD) by the bowlful
    and use the finest lotions,
    but you do not grieve^(AE) over the ruin of Joseph.^(AF)
⁷Therefore you will be among the first to go into exile;^(AG)
    your feasting and lounging will end.^(AH)
